Paintings are like corridors. Like tunnels through which you can travel to invisible worlds.
I often worry that everything I draw starts to really live somewhere - it appears THERE and NOW - lotuses bloom, women boil laundry and sprinkle cinnamon on herring , there are letters in the clockwork that I never wrote... Only time THERE flows quite differently.
Pictures are "alive" when the eyes "touch" them. Those glances are food for the picture. I feel responsible for what appears on the paper. You want to live in a calm and unhurried world. After all, it is possible that we will spend our next lives in such worlds as we have invented. And I - in the ones I drew... Aušra
