      "Creation of the World" is a cycle of thirteen paintings in which Čiurlionis painted not the creation of our world, but of some other one — still unnamed, still only emerging.

      The ninth (1905–1906) is one of the most striking: the forms haven't yet decided whether they'll become plants, architecture, or light.

      Overhead, once the umbrella opens, it looks much as Čiurlionis intended — like something just beginning.
